The viral TikTok hack that could be unsafe for children

They're adorable — but experts have warned against jumping on the 'mini egg' TikTok trend, warning parents they can be unsafe for toddlers.

The video, which was posted by TikTok account @thatfalzonfamil, which is known for creating and sharing funny parenting moments and hacks.

The hack, which results in very adorable-looking, bite-sized fried eggs, requires people to cook frozen eggs. But experts have warned that this puts people at risk of foodborne illness.

"Due to the risk of foodborne illness, especially among an at-risk population like children, it would not be recommended to do this method of egg preparation," a spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service.

"There are food safety risks involved, such as cross-contamination and under-cooking the egg, that could cause foodborne illness if not properly handled. It's also generally not recommended to freeze eggs in their shell."

Some TikTokers had reservations about the hack to begin with and have since shared their own ideas for making the mini eggs.

Among those posting ideas, was one who encouraged people to undertake a more hygienic version of the recipe.

"Or! Hear me out...Boil the egg for (about) 10 minutes then slice," wrote the enthusiastic user.

Another suggested doing a temperature check on the eggs before cooking.
