Vietnamese model to be fined for 'offensive' dress

A Vietnamese model who attended the Cannes Film Festival in a racy dress last month has reportedly been fined over her "offensive" gown.

Ngoc Trinh is set to be fined by government officials in her home country, the Vietnam Express reports.

According to the outlet, the model's sheer, beaded black dress she wore to the film festival on May 19 has been labelled "sexually explicit", "gross" and "weird" online.

Now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Vietnam is allegedly seeking to discipline the 29-year-old over her choice of dress.

On Wednesday, Ngoc Thien, the Minister for Culture, Sports and Tourism, reportedly told legislators the fashion designer's outfit and behaviour was not acceptable, and did not adequately represent the country of Vietnam and the nation's image.

"She is not an artist that the ministry sent to the event," the minister reportedly said.

"Her outfit was improper, offensive and has caused public outrage."

The minister has reportedly ordered officials to investigate Trinh under the Vietnamese public decency laws, which may result in the model being sanctioned.

The model had been attending a screening of the film A Hidden Life at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
