A hilarious video of postman throwing a delivery has sparked a fierce debate among internet users, arguing whether he was in the wrong.

In a video shared to a Reddit forum, a user uploaded a clip captured by a household CCTV camera where a delivery man can be seen flinging a parcel across a driveway gate to reach the front door located about 10 metres away.

The post garnered plenty of internet attention from Reddit users, debating whether the post man was in the wrong or not.

Many users surprisingly jumped to the defence of the postman with one person commenting, "Assuming you're not home, question on this one: If he leaves it near the gate, could get stolen — homeowner gets angry."

Adding, "If he climbs the fence to put it by the door — employer gets angry/homeowner might no be happy if fence broken. If he takes it back to the post office, homeowner gets mad for the inconvenience."

Concluding, "Only win scenario for him is to beep and homeowner to be home and come out. I do feel for these guys sometimes."

Another backed this sentiment writing, "I work for AusPost. If you have a closed gate; 9/10 no delivery driver will enter your address. No one gets paid enough to deal with your unsecured dog. If you can't gain access to the front door; everyone will always assume there is a dog."

A third wrote, "How was he meant to get in? Climb over the gate?"

However, many other people argued that there were many other ways the postman could have dealt with the situation.

One user wrote, "There's a potted plant or at least a pot right within arms reach of the gate he could've just dropped it onto."

A second added, "I think the point is he should have just carded it."

Another made light of the situation, joking, "Politely went under arm not over arm."
