Woman's home face mask remedy dyes her skin bright yellow: 'I resemble the moon'

A DIY face mask has left one woman looking more like a cartoon character than someone with a glowing complexion.

Lauren Jay Rennie, 22, sought a new skincare remedy after experiencing bad acne for the past three weeks.

In a TikTok video, the British woman said she'd been "breaking out in spots" all over her face, leaving her with "sore" blemishes.

Discovering a recipe for a "DIY turmeric face mask", Rennie made the concoction in her home kitchen.

"It's got benefits like acne, wrinkles and skin irritation. So I was like 'YEAH let's go'," she wrote in the video.

After applying the mask, however, an embarrassing side effect soon appeared: Rennie had turned herself yellow

"The thing is I've just applied it to my face and my entire hand has turned yellow," she explained, a mortified look on her face.

"When I take this off my face, I'm going to resemble the moon."

The video cut to a clip of Rennie staring blankly at the camera as her sister laughed loudly in the background.

"I'm literally going to the supermarket with my dad tonight," she added. "I'm really hoping that make-up is going to cover this."

Sharing an update with her 17,300 followers, Rennie said although she had "scrubbed" her face, her pale yellow complexion was "the best it's going to get."

The video, which has since been viewed over 1.1 million times, left TikTok users in stitches, with some saying she belongs on "The Simpsons".

"Girl you said 'turmeric' and I yelled NO," wrote one user.

"Sis really woke up and decided to turn into The Simpsons," commented another.

One person offered a shred of encouragement to Rennie.

"Teeth looking super white though," they pointed out.
