Tim Walz wears Taylor Swift friendship bracelets during US VP debate

Earlier this week, Tim Walz and JD Vance faced off in their only US vice presidential debate.

Viewers were of course fixed to what the two running mates were saying – and not what they were wearing, which is why they may have missed a very sweet detail at Walz's wrist.

The Minnesota governor was spotted wearing two bracelets that had a very touching back story.

The Harris-Walz campaign told People that Walz's daughter, Hope, gifted the bracelets to her father before he left for the televised debate at the CBS Broadcast Center.

The gifts spelt out "Joyful Warrior" and "Coach", two phrases that have been used to describe Walz in recent times.

The vice presidential nominee used to work as a coach for the Mankato West High School football team – a team he saw to its first state championship.

As for "joyful warrior", that came from second gentleman Doug Emhoff.

So what do these friendship bracelets have to do with Taylor Swift?

These accessories were made popular by Swifties who made them to trade at her concerts. 

Inspired by lyrics from the superstar's song You're On Your Own Kid, the tradition has now carried into politics.

Walz's campaign sells Harris-Walz beaded friendship bracelets on pre-order, with the first batch having already sold out. 

The pop princess has also endorsed Walz and Harris for the upcoming election, which the governor mentioned during the debate.

"And I'm as surprised as anybody of this coalition that Kamala Harris has built," Walz said. 

"From Bernie Sanders to Dick Cheney to Taylor Swift and a whole bunch of folks in between there. And they don't all agree on everything, but they are truly optimistic people."

Walz continued: "They believe in a positive future of this country, and one where our politics can be better than it is."
