Woman reveals how short note saved her from 'uncomfortable' situation in waiting room

A woman has revealed the brief note that saved her from a potentially threatening situation, thanks to a staff member's quick thinking.

Melbourne nurse Andrea Elena was sitting in a dentist's waiting room when an unknown man attempted to get her into his car.

Recalling the unsettling situation in a TikTok video, Elena says she wrote a message on her phone's Notes app and showed the receptionist.

The note, which read "The man behind me tried to get me to go into his car", prompted staff to take action to ensure her safety.

"I was waiting in the reception in the dentist and a man came up to me and started asking me questions," Elena explains in the clip.

"He was asking, 'Where are you from? Where do you live? Where do you work?', and asking about my work uniform."

"He then told me that after my appointment he will take me home."

The situation escalated when Elena refused the man's offer: "I said no but he said, 'No I will take you home; I drove here.' He obviously saw that I went into the dentist with an Uber."

In the clip, Elena encouraged people to use her tactic in the event they find themselves in a similar "uncomfortable situation".

After showing the receptionist her warning, Elena says the staff sprung into action.

"The reception alerted security, security escorted me to my appointment then the dentist actually provided me with a free lift home with a cab voucher and security escorted me to the cab and made sure I was safe the entire time," she shared.

Elena thanked the dental practice, noting she was able to safely return home after enduring a three-hour root canal surgery.

The video, which has since been viewed over 100,000 times, struck a chord with many TikTok users.

"This is actually so smart, I hope I never have to use this, but if I'm in a similar situation I definitely will," wrote one user.

"As someone who has been a receptionist for almost ten years: Let us know if you need help - we will protect you with our lives," shared another.

Another person confirmed the approach works, writing, "I've done this to a lady on a train and she pretended to be my mum."
