'Don't forget to wash your hairbrushes': TikToker shocked at 'disgusting' amount of dirt in her brushes
Your hairbrush may actually be doing more harm than good for your luscious locks — at least, that is, if you're not washing it regularly.
TikTok users have been left shocked at the amount of grime that came out of user @everything_tidy's brushes after she left them to soak in the sink. Watch above.
Inspired by another TikTok creator @unitfour4, Everything Tidy washed her brushes after learning dirty hairbrushes can cause oily hair.

Everything Tidy put her hairbrushes in her sink, filled with hot water and shampoo. TikTok
Filling her sink with hot water and shampoo, Everything Tidy left her brushes soaking in the soapy mix, and when she returned an hour later, was disgusted by what she found.
"Oh my god, that's disgusting," she said, moving her now clean brushes around in the sink to see the brown muck that had come out of them in the hour she had left them.
"Ladies, don't forget to wash your hairbrushes. I didn't even know that was a thing. Look at the state of that."
The video has over 3.7 million views, and thousands of comments from shocked viewers.

After an hour, the clear water had turned a murky brown from the dirt. TikTok
"[Oh my god], I'm buying a new hair brush and starting from scratch," one viewer commented.
Another user suggested putting white vinegar and baking powder in hot water instead of shampoo, as "the grime it pulls out is horrendous."
Others, however, thought that having to regularly wash your hairbrushes was common knowledge already.
"The fact that some of y'all don't know to wash your hair brushes regularly is appalling," one TikTok user wrote.
"Wash your hair = wash your brush at the same time."

"I haven't cleaned mine in a year," Shannon says as she pumps some shampoo on top of the brushes in the sink.
"Don't be disgusted, it's just one of those things you just don't think about cleaning."
The brush emerged from its hour-long bath "perfectly clean," but the water was "absolutely disgusting," having been filled with dirt and grime — including sand from a trip to the beach in June — that had seeped out from the bristles.

"I'm actually a little bit ashamed of myself," she said, removing the bubbles from the top of the mix to show the brown grime underneath.
Viewers were shocked at the sheer amount of sludge in the sink.
"Wow," one user wrote, which many seconded.
Another user, however, had some cleaning advice of their own: "You can use a nail brush [or] toothbrush to scrub it. Just soaking it does not get everything. Remember to do your combs, hair ties, etc."
