Getting a rescue dog is always a risk.

You're not only purchasing a pet for your family, but an entire history you know little of except that it ended up with the pet's surrender.

When Canadian mum Elizabeth Spence first rescued English Pointer Nora, she was terrified of people.

Bringing her home to join their already large family of three children, three cats and two dogs was certainly a risk.

And at first, it didn't go well.

Then, Elizabeth gave birth to son Archie.

"If Archie is having a bath, Nora is lying on the bath mat waiting for him to get out. If I’m nursing him she wants up on my lap, too."

She wrote on her popular Instagram account, "'If she's not with Archie she's waiting for Archie."
