Strangers donate to move bride's wedding forward after her dad gets cancer diagnosis

Strangers have donated their time and services to move an American bride’s wedding forward, after her father was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Alyssa Kamm, 28, had originally planned to marry her partner in 2018, but was worried her father, Karl Jones, wouldn't be there to walk her down the aisle. 

"My dad's always been a superhero to me, invincible," she told US outlet, ABC news. "To imagine not having him with me, there to walk me down the aisle, was the worst thought. I would've been heartbroken if my dad couldn't have done that for me."

Kamm found out about her father's illness in mid-January this year.

"I'm such a daddy's girl, so when I heard that about him it just broke my heart," she said.

Jones had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma (cancer of the plasma cells) - a disease which is incurable.

The family knew the wedding needed to be moved forward, but struggled to find a venue at short notice. 

Kamm's sister-in-law heard about the predicament, and posted on a Facebook bridal forum asking for help. She was overwhelmed with offers.

In the end 16 businesses from the Rochester area donated their products and services.

The flowers, rings, photography, cake, hair and makeup and venue hire were all taken care of, giving Kamm a fairy tale wedding for barely any cost.

Around 100 family members and friends watched Kamm being walked down the aisle by her father, and later saw the two sharing a father-daughter dance.

"It was more than I could've ever asked for," Kamm said.
