Justin Trudeau's ex-wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau breaks silence on his new romance with Katy Perry

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's ex-wife has spoken for the first time after it was confirmed he's dating singer Katy Perry.

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau was speaking to Arlene Dickinson on her podcast Arlene Is Alone when the host brought up "the publicness of what Justin is doing".

The former Canadian Prime Minister, 53, and the singer, 41, have also been snapped together on a yacht and at a restaurant.

Perry further confirmed the news at a recent concert in Prague, telling a fan who was trying to propose to her, "No! I am dating someone else for crying out f---ing loud."

Dickinson asked how Sophie maintained her composure after seeing the images, to which she said, "We're human beings and stuff affects us. How you react to stuff is your decision.

"So I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise."

"I'm very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers. What I do with it is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision.

"Does it mean that I don't have emotions? That I don't cry, scream, laugh?" she asked, sharing that she is actually "super tender-hearted."

"Between the emotion and the reaction, I let myself feel. I'll let myself be disappointed by someone. I'll let myself be angry, be sad.

"And I know for a fact how important it is as a mental health advocate to feel those emotions, right? But then what?"

It's not the first time the bestselling author addressed her husband's new romance.

Sophie took to Instagram to share a message to her followers, just hours after photos of her ex-husband kissing Perry on a yacht were beamed around the world.

The photos of the pair on the top deck of Perry's yacht seemingly confirm speculation the two are dating, and comes just months after news broke that the singer and fiancé Orlando Bloom had split.

"Do you find that sometimes we forget that nothing we love was ever meant to be kept; the people, the places, even the moments that once felt... infinite," she said.

"Time asks us to not cling to them, and yet we do. I do because to hold on feels safer than to let go.

"But love was never about possession; it was always about presence – the present moment, and when we release what we cannot keep, we make space for the truth of connection, intimacy, the memory... for the lesson [and] for the way a single smile can echo across a lifetime.

"So maybe love's deepest teaching is this: to stand open-hearted in the face of impermanence, to honour what has been and to trust that letting go is also a form of keeping inside us where no loss can erase it in a way."

She then invited her followers to "take a breath and remember someone or something you have had to release".

Sophie and Justin had separated in 2023 after 18 years of marriage, with the pair sharing three children together – Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.

Perry and Bloom split in July, with the former couple sharing daughter Daisy, five.
