The question of whether or not Australia should become a republic has been passionately debated for decades.
On the one hand, loyal monarchists argue it is an honour and a privilege to be part of the Commonwealth, under the rule of Queen Elizabeth.
On the other hand, when her incredible reign comes to an end, we will be ruled by 'King' Charles.

Australia is more than capable of operating independently of the monarchy, but we do love our royals.
We asked our Nine.com.au readers: "Do you think it is time that Australia becomes a republic?" and of those who responded, 31 per cent said "yes", 49 per cent said "no" and 20 per cent remain "unsure".

It could be that in 2022, the year Queen Elizabeth marks her Platinum Jubilee, having ruled Britain and the Commonwealth for 70 years, Australians are feeling more affectionate towards the monarchy and what it has meant to us.
That being said, one of Anthony Albanese's moves as the country's new prime minister was to appoint Matt Thistlethwaite Assistant Minister for the Republic, so watch this space.
