Shane Warne's hilarious plea to star in Peaky Blinders: 'I've got this great idea...'

Shane Warne's close friend Aaron Hamill shared a hilarious anecdote about the cricket legend's plea to star in the hit TV series Peaky Blinders.

During a chat with Andy Lee, Glenn Robbins and Sam Newman at his memorial at the MCG, ex-AFL star Hamill spoke about his friendship with Warne and recalled his love for the Netflix series — as well as his affection for wearing the newsboy cap associated with the show.

"Talk me through the Peaky Blinders cap. He was committed to this in the last few years," Lee quipped. "It started to become one with him."

"He was committed, but it's horrendous," Hamill laughed. "We had a good chuckle about it. There's not too many that could get away with it, let's be honest."

Hamill said Warne's excitement didn't stop there, revealing the "binge Netflix watcher" wanted to star in Peaky Blinders.

"He said, 'I've got this great idea,' as he always did. He said, 'I've sent off an email to the producers of Peaky Blinders. "He was a binge Netflix watcher. He loved it."

"So he did all that and he rang back and said, 'I got the email back. It said, Dear Shane, thanks very much. We love your enthusiasm, but unfortunately porcelain veneers weren't around in Birmingham in 1931.'"

Warne's close pal also shared a fascinating story about how the cricket star very nearly starred on Suits¸ the series that made Meghan Markle famous.

"He was teed up to be on Suits at one point. He didn't stop there," he added.

"But that's what he was like. He was ambitious. He was driven. He wouldn't take no for an answer."
