The Crown star reveals the most surprising thing he learnt about Prince Charles

Prince Charles has grown up in the public eye.

So when actor Josh O'Connor began his deep dive into the Prince of Wales ahead of playing him in Season 3 of The Crown, he wasn't expecting one little-known fact about the 71-year-old.

"He doesn't eat lunch," O'Connor told 9Honey at the World Premiere of the new Netflix series.

"And he has a boiled egg with every meal that he does have," the 29-year-old noted, adding: "It's pretty weird."

"[Actually] I say it's weird but I like a boiled egg, I'm not dissing a boiled egg," he adds with a laugh.

O'Connor will play "Charlie" as he refers to the future King, as a young man at university who falls in love with Camilla Parker-Bowles (nee Shand) before Lady Diana Spencer comes into the picture.

He believes the love triangle between the trio is still so fascinating to audiences because it was a real life "soap opera".

"It's the most exciting...for a while, they [Charles and Diana] were two of the most famous people in the world, so I think that's just really exciting for people [to see]".

However, the actor hopes that if Prince Charles does ever watch his performance of that time in his life, he'll know to take it with a grain of salt.

"I think that he'll take that it is a drama and that we're working in fiction - there's bound to be a lot of like 'that's nothing like me' and for that, I apologise," O'Connor says with a nervous laugh.

"But I think...I hope he likes it, I think he would. It's a good sympathetic telling of these characters."

The actor also jokes that he landed the coveted role in the popular series thanks to his ears.

"I mean, I hope it wasn't just the ears but there was certainly a period at my school growing up, where some boys were getting their ears pinned back and I was convinced it was going to be brilliant for me and I'm glad I didn't, for sure."

Another surprising fact on the new series of the popular drama on the streaming service came from Jason Watkins.

The actor, who will play Prime Minister Harold Wilson in Season 3, told 9Honey on the red carpet that they filmed in "Buckingham Palace"...sort of.

"Netflix built Buckingham Palace. They built Buckingham Palace on the Elstree Film Studios at 70 per cent scale with a bit of CGI but it is physically there."

The Crown Season 3 is available to watch on Netflix from Sunday, November 17.
