Swedish royal ladies show off glittering tiaras for second glamorous ball in two days

Sweden's queen and three princesses have given the British royal ladies a run for their money in the fashion stakes with a second white-tie ball in as many days.

The Swedish royal family welcomed Nobel Prize Laureates (the recipients of the awards) into the Royal Palace in Stockholm for the annual King's Dinner.

It is traditionally held one day after the Nobel Prize Ceremony, which saw Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine and Princess Sofia wear their finest tiaras and gowns.

The Nobel Prize is an international award given yearly for achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, economics, and peace.

During the King's Dinner, hosted by King Carl XVI Gustaf, the laureates were presented to the royal family before a gala dinner.

And, much like yesterday's ceremony, it was an occasion with a dress code that called for tiaras and gowns.

Queen Silvia lead the way in a cobalt-blue gown by Georg et Arend and the Connaught tiara, which features diamonds in the form of a laurel wreath. It has been passed down by ladies in the Swedish royal family since 1905 and has been worn by Queen Silvia's daughters, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine.

Crown Princess Victoria chose a bright red dress for the occasion, thought to be by Pär Engsheden who designed her royal wedding gown. She wore the Boucheron Laurel Wreath tiara, from her own jewel collection that was passed down from her great-aunt Princess Lilian.

Princess Madeleine was adorned with a headpiece known as the Modern Fringe tiara, thought to have been gifted to Queen Silvia for her wedding anniversary in the 1980s from her husband. Princess Madeleine's gown is by Ida Sjösted and featured a sheer top with embroidered flowers.

Princess Sofia's dress, by Ida Lanto, was similar in colour and style to her sister-in-law's. But it was her tiara that has proven to be one of the most striking – and versatile – pieces in the royal vault.

Sofia wore her wedding tiara with diamond toppers instead of the emerald stones she used when she married Prince Carl in 2015. At last night's Nobel Prize Ceremony Princess Sofia wore the same tiara with turquoise stones to match her Emelie Janrell gown and earrings.
