Where is Sarah Ferguson? Former Duchess of York has not been spotted in public all year

The former Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, is continuing her self-imposed exile from the public gaze.

Just one year after her appearance at the Royal Family's 2025 Easter celebration, where she joined her former husband and two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Ferguson was nowhere to be seen over the most recent Easter weekend.

In fact, Ferguson, who lost her title of Duchess of York in October 2025, at the same time her former husband was stripped of his titles and HRH status, has not been seen in public since December 12, 2025, when she was spotted arriving for the Christening of her youngest grandchild, Athena, the daughter of Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli-Mozzi.

So just where is Ferguson, who became a royal on her marriage to the then Prince Andrew in 1986?

After four decades living as a member of the royal family, she has relished her position, which she used to feather her own nest financially.

But now, as the fallout from her and her former husband's relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein continues to haunt them both, Ferguson has retreated from public life.

Despite being divorced for three decades, Ferguson's life had carried on much as before. She retained her title of Duchess of York after her 1996 divorce, even though she lost her HRH status.

She and Andrew lived together for many years, most recently at Royal Lodge, located on Crown Estate land in Windsor, where Andrew had lived since 2003 and where they had both remained until renewed scrutiny over his relationship with Epstein following the release of the Epstein Files.

Ferguson was also mentioned, which led to them both being booted out. While Andrew moved to the King's private Sandringham Estate – first Wood Farm and now Marsh Farm – Sarah's whereabouts has remained a mystery.

So much in fact that "Where's Sarah?" has been a much-asked question by royal watchers.

Now The Mirror is reporting Ferguson has been relying on the generosity of her network of wealthy friends to keep a roof over her head. This year alone she has reportedly been everywhere from Switzerland to Italy, including a stay in a Tuscan castle, as well as France, the United Arab Emirates and the US.

According to The Mirror, Ferguson has remained on the move this year.

Shortly after Christmas, she reportedly checked into one of the world's most expensive wellness clinics in Zurich, Switzerland.

Ferguson reportedly spent a month in the AU$26,000 a night Paracelsus Recovery Clinic.

She then reportedly hit the ski slopes of France before travelling to Florida with her son-in-law Edoardo Mapelli-Mozzi, who attended a design conference in Palm Beach from January 27 to 30.

After that, she reportedly travelled to the UAE to meet up with her youngest daughter Princess Eugenie, who was in Doha to attend the inaugural Art Basel Qatar between February 5-7 as part of her job with art dealer Hauser & Wirth.

Shortly after that, she reportedly flew to Switzerland to join Eugenie for her half-term ski holiday in Gstaad around the middle of February, shortly before Andrew's dramatic arrest.

Since then, she has reportedly been staying with friends in the UK and is so paranoid about her whereabouts getting out that she moves constantly and changes phones.

"She notifies friends of her last location only once she has safely moved on to the next. She wants to avoid being photographed," a source said.

One place she reportedly hasn't been is Sandringham, instead determined to keep her distance from her former husband.

She is also unlikely to return to the US now that she has reportedly been asked to testify before Congress as part of an investigation into Epstein's sex trafficking operations.

"She feels it would be unbearable and does not want to be put in a position under oath where she would be asked not only about Epstein but also about Andrew," a source told The Mirror.

"It has not been a difficult decision, despite how deeply entrenched in America she once was."

One thing all this jetsetting has shown is that Ferguson apparently feels little or no remorse for her own part in her downfall.

The Mirror quoted a 'friend' of Ferguson's who said, "What she doesn't appear to feel is remorse for what has happened.

"She just wants this to all go away and allow her to get on with her life. Her head is in the sand."

The same friend said Ferguson was feeling "deeply depressed and that the world is out to get her".

"She is very, very down. Some people, including Sarah herself, are worried for her mental health."

And it is no surprise. In recent months, multiple charities cut ties with Ferguson, her own charity and six of her businesses were dissolved, and she was even stripped of her honorary Freedom of the City of York title.

Ferguson had once been a regular visitor to the city, and was a speaker at the Global Citizen Prize event held there in May 2024.
