Duchess of York reveals she was snubbed by The Crown producers when offering her help

Sarah Ferguson has revealed producers of The Crown snubbed her when she offered to help with the hit drama series.

The Duchess of York married Queen Elizabeth's son Prince Andrew in 1986 before they separated in 1992 and divorced a decade later in 1996.

Despite Season 4 of the Netflix series being set around the time of their wedding, she was only briefly shown in the TV drama — which instead centred around Prince Charles and Diana's relationship — something the former royal joked about in a recent interview.

"Hello?...Where is Fergie?" she said to Town & Country magazine.

Fergie, as she's affectionately become known over the years, revealed she wrote to one of The Crown's executive producers, Andy Harries, but her offer of insider knowledge was declined.

"I said to him, 'Why can't I help my character?'" she said.

The proud mother of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie knows a thing or two about scripted royal historical drama pieces.

Fergie previously produced the film Young Victoria, starring Emily Blunt.

Now, the 61-year-old has written her debut historical romance fiction, Her Heart for a Compass and the novel is set to be adapted into a TV series.

Having written a number of children's books over the years, this 400-page book marks her first title aimed at adults and is a personal project.

"The story itself is based on one of my ancestors and I've spent the last couple of years doing my own research into my family history with the help of the royal archives," Fergie wrote on Instagram when announcing the book last year.

"As a result the book is rich in detail of the Victorian era and draws on my own life journey and experiences too — so it is a story very close to my own heart."
