Florals and frocks as royals take on Ladies Day at Ascot

Mother-daughter duo Princess Anne and Zara Tindall led the royal procession for Ladies Day at Royal Ascot on Thursday.

The pair were joined in the carriage by their husbands, Sir Tim Laurence and Mike Tindall.

There was briefly hope the Queen would be making an appearance.

Her Majesty's horse Reach For The Moon was a hot favourite for the Hampton Court Stakes but the 96-year-old watched on from home instead as the colt came in second place.

Joining in the second carriage of the procession into the parade ring was the late Princess Margaret's daughter Lady Sarah Chatto, who was joined by her husband Daniel.

Sarah donned a cream pleated skirt with a matching cardigan despite the warm temperatures but covered up from the heat in a wide-brimmed hat.

While not making an appearance in the formal procession of the day, Sophie, Countess of Wessex was spotted trackside.

The mum-of-two was seen wearing a multi-coloured vibrant floral maxi-dress with over-sized bows on the shoulders.

This look was completed with a complementary headpiece.

Zara also donned a fuchsia floral motif on her hat, matching perfectly with her white dress, which featured hot pink buttons and piping.

Providing a lesson in couple dressing, husband Mike had fuchsia accents on his top and tails ensemble - wearing a tie and handkerchief to match his wife.

Her Majesty is yet to enter the royal enclosure so far this week but it's hoped the monarch will make an appearance trackside on at least one of the five days.

The keen racegoer and horse breeder has more than 10 horses racing across the week.
