Two cars with links to the late Queen Elizabeth II are going to auction later this week.

While one is verified to have been owned and driven by the monarch, "circumstantial information" has lead experts to believe the second, too, was once used by the Queen.

Both will be sold by Historics Auctioneers on Saturday, with the sale taking place not far from Windsor Castle.

The most valuable of the two is the 2009 Jaguar X-Type Estate which is described as a "fantastic piece of royal history" as it was personally driven by the monarch around her Windsor estate.

"This surely is a car for the serious collector or royalist and with a provenance which is impossible to match, this is unique," Historics Auctioneers said of the Jaguar on its website.

The car is "presented in Emerald Fire with Barley leather interior and the first owner was HM Queen Elizabeth II."

It was last sold by the auction house for £43,000 (approx. $82,000) and bought by radio presenter Chris Evans, who then donated the vehicle to Comic Relief for a charity sale.

The car raised almost £300,000 (approx. $574,000) for the charity.

It was bought by Jane Lewis, from Dorset who has driven the car but has now decided to sell it.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Great Ormand Street hospital for sick children.

No reserve has been listed for the Jaguar.

The second car with royal links is a 2004 Range Rover, believed to haven been used by the late Queen and Prince Philip on their Balmoral estate in Scotland.

But this provenance has not been confirmed and remains speculation.

Among the "telling indicators" include duel rear window switches that the auction house says is not standard on the car but "could be ordered and fitted by dealerships, this has been seen before with the Queen's Daimler Majestic and enable the rear passenger (possibly the Queen) to control the other rear window thus stopping the wind blowing directly into her face".

"Furthermore, keen eyes will spot on the door pillars there are rear climb handles to assist entry and departure from the car, this is something believed to be unique to the Queen's Range Rovers due to her insistence of no assistance from staff when entering and exiting the car thus the handles along with the side steps enabled comfortable entry for a lady who would have been in her late 70's at the time."

A previous owner also noticed "the car had filler and in odd places", holes believed to have been from a "radio comms aerial...also seen in a photo of a L322 Range Rover driven by the Queen and the front believed to be where the Labrador mascot was mounted".

The car has a guide price of £38,000 (approx. $72,000).

They are the latest items connected to members of the royal family to have come up for sale recently.

Last week, a handwritten letter from Diana, Princess of Wales, to disgraced BBC presenter Jimmy Savile sold at auction for $2205 (approx. $3250).

The note, on Kensington Palace letterhead, followed the sale of Diana's iconic black sheep jumper and the suite of jewels worn at her final public engagement.
