Harry and Andrew to miss state event with world leaders ahead of Queen's funeral

King Charles is hosting an event for heads of state and official foreign guest ahead of Queen Elizabeth's funeral on September 19 and princes Harry and Andrew won't be attending.

Only working royals will be included in the get together the day before Her Majesty is laid to rest at Westminster Abbey.

When asked about their absence by Hello!, Buckingham Palace confirmed "only working royals will take part."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned as working members of the royal family in 2020 and Prince Andrew stepped back from royal duties in 2021 following a sex scandal involving deceased child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Buckingham Palace stated: "The King and The Queen Consort will host Heads of State and Official Overseas Guests at Buckingham Palace ahead of the State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen. This will be an official state event."

Royal followers have been delighted to see Harry and Meghan Markle included in events ahead of the Queen's state funeral.

The couple joined the Prince and Princess of Wales on a walkabout at Windsor Castle to view flower tributes left to the monarch. They were also part of the coffin procession as Queen Elizabeth was moved to Westminster Hall to lie in state for four days, allowing members of the public to pay their respects.

Next, there will be a vigil held as the Queen is moved once again ahead of her funeral, which will include a guard of honour.

Princes Harry and Andrew with both wear military attire for this portion of events.

Among those attending will be Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New Zealand leader Jacinda Ardern, and US President Joe Biden, as well as European royals including Crown Princess Mary.
