Queen Elizabeth expected to return to normal work this week after COVID-19 infection

Queen Elizabeth is expected to resume her duties as normal this week, including face to face events, after battling COVID-19.

The monarch 95, made a slow return to regular life last week when she fronted two virtual audiences from Windsor Castle.

But she had cancelled some engagements the week before due to cold-like symptoms from the virus.

According to The Times, a source says Her Majesty is now ready to get back to work.

"The plan going forward is very much back to before the Queen contracted COVID," the source told the publication.

The Queen is expected to attend, in person, the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on March 14 and a service of thanksgiving for the late Duke of Edinburgh, also at the Abbey, on March 29.

Last Monday, Prince Charles was asked about his mother's health during a visit to Southend-on-Sea.

Member of the public Janice Jacom said of their conversation: "I asked the prince about his mother and he said 'she's a lot better now — it was very mild'.

"It was a bit worrying as the Queen is getting on a bit but I think she's absolutely wonderful."

The Queen was confirmed to have COVID-19 on Sunday February 20 with Buckingham Palace announcing Her Majesty was "experiencing mild cold-like symptoms".

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, too, contracted the virus recently — Prince Charles' second infection and Camilla's first.

On Sunday, the Queen is reported to have left Windsor Castle visit the grounds of Frogmore House, where she enjoyed time with some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Days later she was deemed well enough to carry out the two virtual audiences with ambassadors.

The Queen's diary is expected to be less full in the coming weeks as she prepares to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in June.

Doctors are understood to want the monarch in optimum health for the festivities, which will include a four day spectacle with Trooping the Colour at Buckingham Palace returning to its original form for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
