Queen cancels planned virtual engagements due to COVID-19

Queen Elizabeth has cancelled planned engagements due to COVID-19.

In an update on the 95-year-old monarch's condition, Buckingham Palace said the Queen was still under the weather with "mild" symptoms of coronavirus.

"As Her Majesty is still experiencing mild cold like symptoms she has decided not to undertake her planned virtual engagements today, but will continue with light duties," the short statement said.

Further planned engagements for later this week will be decided at the time, the palace noted.

The Queen tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and Buckingham Palace announced the world's longest reigning monarch would continue with "light duties" during isolation.

This typically includes paperwork, which Her Majesty continued with during her health woes late last year.

"[The Queen does] a lot of office work as well - many people don't know that ... there's a lot of talk about those red boxes she receives about twice a day, there are things she has to read and things she has to sign off," Dickie Arbiter told 9Honey when the Queen was forced to cancel engagements for the sake of her health last October.

"The paperwork doesn't get ditched — the paperwork happens every day except Christmas Day," he adds.

Just hours after the diagnosis was announced earlier this week, Her Majesty sent a message of well wishes to Winter Olympians from Team GB.

Last week, the monarch conducted multiple virtual audiences at Buckingham Palace, via video link from Windsor Castle.

The Queen also held her first in-person engagement at Windsor Castle since returning from a break in Sandringham, where she marked her Platinum Jubilee and the 70th anniversary of her father's death on February 6.
