Queen Elizabeth has arrived at Balmoral Castle for the summer break, joined by Prince Philip and their beloved dogs.

Her Majesty, 94, and Philip, 99, were driven to the RAF Northolt in London before boarding a private plane to bound for their summer residence in Scotland.

The couple had been isolating at Windsor Castle since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. They are expected to remain in Scotland for the next three months.

After landing in Scotland, the couple were pictured getting into a waiting vehicle, closely followed by a staffer who was carrying one of the Queen's corgies.

Ahead of their trip, the couple attended the wedding of their granddaughter Princess Beatrice, who wed Eduardo Mopelli Mazzi in a private ceremony in Windsor, having postponed their wedding due to the pandemic.

The Queen and Philip were photographed standing an appropriate distance away from the newlyweds minutes after the ceremony.

According to ITV Rota podcast hosts Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson, some of the couple's favourite summer activities won't be taking place due to the global pandemic.

Robinson said they'd usually attend the Braemar Gathering and watch the Highland Games, which is normally held on the first weekend of September.

"That's where you see the tug-of-war, the hammer throwing, the tossing of the caber," she explained to listeners.

"There'll be none of that this year, we'll have none of those pictures."

The Braemar Royal Highland Charity announced earlier in the year that the gathering, which was due to take place on September 4, had been cancelled.

It's not known where Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will be spending their summer holidays. The pair usually holiday in Birkhall, on the Balmoral estate, which is where they spent the COVID-19 lockdown period.
