Priyanka Chopra calls friend Meghan Markle ‘princess for the people’

Actress Priyanka Chopra has paid tribute to her friend Meghan Markle after it was announced the soon-to-be royal has made it onto Time’s Most Influential People list.

Chopra, who is considered to be one of Markle’s closest friends, has written an ode for the occasion that gives a glimpse into their friendship.

“Somewhere among biryani, poutine, and endless conversations, I realised just how deeply Meghan Markle cares for the world,” she writes. “With her, what you see is real, and what you get is a relatable young woman with her heart and mind in the right place.”

She also touches upon Markle’s influence as a new member of the royal family.

“Meghan is an important influencer in a world that needs strong public figures to respect and look up to,” Chopra says. “Meghan, standing shoulder to shoulder with Harry, will be a princess for the people.”

The claim may seem familiar to some. The title “People’s Princess” was given to Princess Diana by the media and public in the late eighties and early nineties when her passion for helping the world and empathy for others began to show through.

However, it’s not the first time Markle has been compared to her late mother-in-law, and their shared desires have contributed in earning them fans the world over.

Chopra has been singing the actress’ praises since day one, though.

The Bollywood megastar was last year quizzed by the TV host Wendy Williams on her friendship with Markle, whom Williams referred to as "Prince Harry's girlfriend."

Visibly annoyed, Chopra took the opportunity to remind the world the 36-year-old was more than just the man she was dating — even if he was the world's most eligible royal.

Her expression turning stern, Chopra replied: "Also, Meghan Markle, actress...Suits... her achievements, mmm-hmm, just saying..."

We can all agree Priyanka Chopra is the best kind of friend.
