Princess Tatiana of Greece breaks silence following 'difficult year'

Princess Tatiana has spoken out about her "difficult year" following her divorce from husband Prince Nikolaos of Greece in April and the disappearance of her stepbrother a month later.

Tatiana, 44, described her year as "a really difficult year for me, one of transition, full of moments of uncertainty and pain".

"I think it is in adversity that we often find our deepest strength," she told local publication BHMagazino.

"Life's challenges remind me how important it is to persevere, to have hope and faith in the power of the human spirit."

The royal spoke of the "support of family, my friends and my entourage and I drew immense strength from them".

"Everything happened at the same time. It was like an avalanche of changes in front of everyone," she said, adding that she'd "learned the importance of allowing myself to feel, cry, manage emotions and move forward with self-compassion".

Prince Nikolaos is the third child of Constantine II and Anne-Marie, who were the last King and Queen of Greece, from 1964 to 1973.

The Greek monarchy was officially abolished in 1973, but its members remain prominent society figures.

He and Princess Tatiana were engaged in 2009 before marrying in 2010. Their divorce was confirmed on April 19.

They released a statement at the time. It read: "Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana after fourteen years of living together, have decided to dissolve their marriage.

"Both express the difficulty of this decision, the deep appreciation and respect they have for each other, but also the love with which they have walked all these years."

Princess Tatiana will retain her royal title.

The royal's stepbrother Attilio Brillembourg, 53, was reported missing on May 18. He was last seen in Malibu and hasn't been seen since.

The LA Police Department officially declared Brillembourg a missing person on May 19, saying "there is concern for Mr Brillembourg's well-being".
