Princess Michael of Kent breaks both wrists falling down Kensington Palace stairs

Princess Michael of Kent has broken both of her wrists after falling on the stairs of Kensington Palace.

She had been carrying a pile of coats when she tripped and fell.

According to reports from Majesty Magazine and The Daily Mail, the Princess instinctively used her hands to break her fall.

As a result she broke several small bones in both her wrists.

"So many things that you rely on being able to do, like cleaning your teeth, are impossible," she said of adjusting her day-to-day life to accommodate her injuries.

"I can type with one finger on a mobile, but I can't use a laptop.

"I am told that, after an accident like this, if you do one wrong movement on top of the unhealed bones, you are back where you started."

The princess is married to the late Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, Prince Michael of Kent.

On June 30, the couple marked their 46th wedding anniversary.

At the time of his birth, Prince Michael was seventh in line to the Brattish throne, however when he married the princess, otherwise known as Baroness Marie-Christine, he was temporarily forced to give up his place in the line of succession.

German-born Baroness Marie Christine von Reibnitz was a Catholic who had been previously married to ex-husband Thomas Troubridge between 1971 and 1977.

Michael proposed to his future wife with a two-stone sapphire and diamond ring made with gems which belonged to his late mother, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent.

The couple married in 1978, only two weeks after the princess' former marriage was annulled.

The event was treated as a royal wedding, however attendance from the royal family was limited.

Prince Michael's brother the Duke of Kent and sister Princess Alexandra attended, alongside Princess Anne and Lord Louis Mountbatten.

Following the wedding, Michael was removed from the line of succession to the throne, a consequence of marrying a Catholic set out in the 1701 Act of Settlement.

However, the act was subject to repeal in 2013 and Michael's place in the line of succession was reinstated.

Over the years, the couple welcomed two children, Lady Gabriella Windsor and Lord Frederick Windsor.

The family suffered a tragedy in early 2024 when their son-in-law, husband of Lady Gabriella, Thomas Kingston died.

Kingston married Lady Gabriella in May 2019 after previously dating Catherine, Princess of Wales' sister Pippa Matthews.

"It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother," a statement released on behalf of Lady Gabriella began.

"Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family, and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing."
