Speaking to the Dutch paper Nieuwsblad, the couple said, "We are really delighted and eager to begin this new chapter in our life together."

As Maria is ninth in line to the throne, she had to seek permission to marry from her royal uncle, King Philippe, who approved of the union.

Isvy proposed to Princess Maria in December 2021 with a beautiful diamond and sapphire engagement ring.

In a statement to Instagram, the Belgian Royal Palace congratulated the happy couple: "Princess Maria Laura and Mr William Isvy have become engaged. The wedding will take place in the second half of 2022."
