Beatrice's new role as a stepmum: How she included Eduardo's son in her wedding

Since Princess Beatrice announced her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in September 2019, there have been rumours that the couple would give Edoardo's young son Wolfie a special role on their big day.

With suggestions Beatrice would choose him as a pageboy, or that Edoardo would have his son as his best man, it was clear the pair wanted the four-year-old to be involved in the ceremony.

Now Beatrice and Edoardo have tied the knot in an intimate ceremony attended by fewer than 20 guests, and according to a source close to the family, Wolfie was front and centre.

"Wolfie was there, and played an important role in the wedding," they told Town & Country Magazine.

While it's unclear what exact role Wolfie filled – be it pageboy, best man, or something else entirely – it's clear he was an important part of the small royal wedding.

Beatrice said "I do" on Friday at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor, after months of postponing her wedding plans.

Despite having to change so much about her big day, the princess and Edoardo clearly found a way to make sure her new stepson was involved.

Edoardo shares his son Christopher 'Woflie' with former girlfriend Dara Huang , who has publicly supported Edoardo and Beatrice's relationship in the past.

"She is totally happy that Beatrice will be developing a relationship with her son," a source told The Daily Mail last year.

As for Beatrice, the royal reportedly dotes on little Wolfie and has taken great joy in becoming a step-mum to him.

A friend of the princess told PEOPLE that Beatrice "embraced [Wolfie] as part of her life from the outset" and the four-year-old is "very much part of their life".

Another source added: "Edo is easily one of the best dads, he is so involved, and Beatrice is already showing that she's a fantastic step-mummy… They are really happy."

It's understood Beatrice wants children of her own one day, but it looks like her maternal instincts have already kicked in when it comes to Wolfie.

Beatrice and Edoardo wed in the chapel opposite the York family's home, Royal Lodge, joined by around 20 guests, including Beatrice's father Prince Andrew and mother Sarah Ferguson.

Beatrice and Edo's original wedding day on May 29 was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but they had not revealed a new date for the ceremony.

"The Princess and her fiancé wanted to make sure Her Majesty could attend before she leaves for her annual holiday in Balmoral at the end of the month," a source told The Evening Standard.

"A huge royal wedding was simply not going to happen and this was the best chance for them to do this."

On getting married, Princess Beatrice not only becomes a stepmother to Edo's four-year-old son Wolfie, but she also changes her title slightly, dropping her father's "of York" designation.

Speaking to 9Honey earlier this year, Sarah Ferguson said: "I have never seen Beatrice as happy as she is right now with Edo".
