William and Catherine, Princess of Wales' Royal Equerry Lieutenant Commander Rob Dixon resigns from role

Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales are saying goodbye to a valued team member, with their right-hand man Lieutenant Commander Rob Dixon resigning from his role as royal equerry.

Dixon took to LinkedIn to share an emotional tribute to his role, detailing all the memories from the important role while conceding, "It's time to move on…"

"I've had the most incredible opportunity to serve in a role that not only challenged me, but allowed me to grow, to learn, and to make meaningful contributions alongside a talented and passionate team. I am immensely grateful for the support, collaboration, and friendships formed during these last 4 years," he wrote.

Dixon was first appointed a Royal Equerry in September 2020. Royal Equerries are officers from one of the three branches of the Armed Forces who are chosen to work for senior royal members. Their duties can range from helping organise public engagements to arranging the royal's official schedules

One famous royal equerry was Captain Peter Townsend, who fulfilled the role for King George VI from 1944 to 1952 and for his daughter Queen Elizabeth II from 1952 to 1953 – though he was more renowned for his relationship with her younger sister and the King's second daughter, Princess Margaret.

Dixon reflected on the highlights of his career, sharing, "I was able to play a small part in the funeral of The Prince Philip, the Platinum Jubilee, the funeral of our wonderful late Queen, the Coronation of a new Monarch, and all the weird and wonderful in between!

"There were engagements when our whole Household was involved, every single person, and there were times when I was quite rightly standing alone, calling the shots and backing the shots I'd taken.

"It's now time to swap the top hat and tails for 'daily working rig' once again, and it's the right thing to do. An Equerry's role is finite, and handing over to an enthusiastic fresh set of eyes is all part of the process.

"I will be forever grateful to everyone who played their part alongside me in 'Team Cambridge' and 'Team Wales', and also to my superb Principals," he said, referring to William and Kate.

Dixon will reportedly be going back to the Royal Navy, which he has served in for 24 years, as per the Daily Mail.

His role will be taken over by Squadron Leader Mike Reynolds, a helicopter pilot from the Royal Air Force.
