Prince William's reaction to Princess Diana's tell-all interview

A new documentary claims Prince William was furious after his mother's notorious 1995 tell-all interview in which she spoke about her failed marriage to Prince Charles.

During the interview, Princess Diana famously said there were "three people" in her marriage referring to herself, Prince Charles and his now-wife Camilla Parker Bowles.

"William was exposed to everything from the interview and called his mother in a fury and a rage," Vanity Fair Royal Correspondent Katie Nicholl tells Martin Bashir in the documentary 'William and Harry: Brothers in Arms'.

Ms Nicholl recalled a conversation with Simone Simmons, a close friend of Diana's: "[She told me] it was the one time William turned on his mother and said that he would never forgive Diana for what she'd done."

Twenty years after his mother's death Prince William addressed the claim, saying he now understood why his mother chose to go public.

In the BBC documentary 'Diana, 7 Days' he said, "I can understand -- having sometimes been in those situations, you feel incredibly desperate and it is very unfair that things are being said that are untrue. 

"The easiest thing to do is just say or go to the media yourself. Open that door. [But] once you've opened it you can ever close it again."

Just two years after the interview, Diana died in a Paris car crash. Her funeral was watched by an estimated two billion people.
