Kate and William make chocolate at family-run farm during second day of royal tour to Belize

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have attempted to make chocolate on the second day of their royal tour of Belize.

Prince William and Kate visited a cacao factory in Indian Creek, Belize, on Sunday, in an effort to learn about local production and sustainability.

Kate and William quickly got stuck into the production line at the Che'il Mayan Chocolate Factory, grinding cacao nibs while learning about how the Mayans cultivate the cacao trees and process the beans, eventually making chocolate.

During a demonstration the duchess said: "You make it look so easy" while William added: "If I did that, I'd lose a finger".

Kate once again wore the colours of the Belize flag, choosing a bright blue dress with white and yellow flowers, by designer Tory Burch.

She accessorised with a Anya Hindmarch fan-shaped handbag and large blue earrings.

Their visit to the family-run factory comes after a portion of their royal tour was removed due to protests from locals.

The duke and duchess had a scheduled engagement the Akte 'il Ha cacao farm in Indian Creek village, in the foothills of the Maya Mountains.

A protest opposing the trip took place on Friday, according to reports.

A local media outlet said there was a claimed dispute between residents of Indian Creek village and Fauna and Flora International (FFI), which has William as patron, over land owned by the conservation organisation.

There were also reported to be concerns about the landing site earmarked for the Cambridges' helicopter, with residents claiming they were not consulted about the location, a local football pitch.

That visit was replaced with today's engagement at the Che'il Mayan Chocolate Factory.

The royal couple later visited Hopkins, a beachfront location, considered the cultural centre of the Garifuna community.

They will also spend time learning about efforts to preserve Belize's barrier reef.

William and Kate are on an eight-day tour of the Caribbean in celebration of the Queen' Platinum Jubilee.

They will later visit to the Bahamas where they'll take part in a sailing regatta and in Jamaica they are due to celebrate the country's musical and sporting heritage.

The tour is William and Kate's first joint overseas trip since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

They arrived in the Caribbean nation of Belize on Saturday.
