Prince Charles shares video tribute to 'dear Papa' Prince Philip

Prince Charles has taken a walk down memory lane with a video tribute to his "dear Papa" Prince Philip, who died on Friday.

The Clarence House Instagram account, which represents the Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, posted a one-minute montage of photos from the Duke of Edinburgh's life.

These included childhood snapshots of Charles with his father, clutching onto his hand, playing on the grounds of the royal estates, and accompanying him to the polo.

There were also photos of Philip with his eldest son at official engagements through the years, from the Queen's coronation to more recent appearances.

The caption of the video referenced comments Prince Charles made about his father in a media appearance following his death at age 99 on April 9.

"My father, for I suppose the last 70 years, has given the most remarkable, devoted service to The Queen, to my family and to the country, but also to the whole of the Commonwealth," it reads.

"My dear Papa was a very special person."

On Friday night, the future king appeared alongside his siblings in a BBC documentary about their father, recorded ahead of his death.

"He didn't suffer fools gladly," Charles said.

"So if you said anything that was in any way ambiguous he'd go, 'Make up your mind', so perhaps it made you choose your words carefully.

"He was very good at showing you how to do things and instructing you how to do things."

Charles also praised his father for his dedication to public service and supporting Queen Elizabeth.

"His energy was astonishing in supporting [her] and doing it for such a long time, and in some extraordinary way being able to go on doing it for so long," he said.

"What he's done has amounted to an astonishing achievement, I think."

The duke will be farewelled in a ceremonial funeral at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle on Saturday, to be attended by just 30 people.

Charles is expected to walk behind his father's coffin in the funeral procession, alongside other royal family members.

The service had been planned in accordance to Philip's wishes for a low-fuss affair, but has been further scaled-back as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.
