Prince Nikolaos to marry new partner next week, royal family confirms

The Greek royal family have confirmed the wedding date for Prince Nikolaos days after reports of his engagement broke.

The prince and his new fiancee Chrysí Vardinogianni are set to tie the knot next Friday, February 7.

The Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony will be held at the Holy Church of Saint Nicholas Ragavas in Athens.

The royal announcement revealed it will be "a private ceremony amongst close family and friends".

Reports broke last weekend that Prince Nikolaos was engaged to remarry just months after announcing his divorce from his former wife, Princess Tatiana.

HELLO! Greecethe royal, 55, proposed to Vardinogianni, the daughter of shipowner Giorgos Vardinogiannis and Agapi Politi.

Vardinogianni has long been a close friend of the Greek royal family, having attended many family events.

She was recently seen at the wedding of Nikolaos' sister, Princess Theodora and Matthew Kumar.

Local newspaper Proto Thema published footage of the couple walking down the street together on January 17.

The report added that Vardinogianni accompanied Prince Nikolaos to the memorial service marking two years since the death of his father King Constantine, as well as the luncheon held at the Greek royal family's former summer palace afterwards.

The engagement news comes just nine months after Nikolaos and Tatiana, announced their divorce after 14 years together.

"Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana after fourteen years of living together, have decided to dissolve their marriage," read a statement delivered at the time.

"Both express the difficulty of this decision, the deep appreciation and respect they have for each other, but also the love with which they have walked all these years.

"The same values of respect and understanding will form the basis of their relationship in the future, a relationship of deep and sincere friendship.

Just weeks earlier, Nikolaos, 54, and Tatiana, 43, were pictured arm-in-arm at the thanksgiving service for King Constantine II, who was Nikolaos' father and the last formal King of Greece.

They appeared at the service alongside members of the British royal family.

Prince Nikolaos is the third child of Constantine II and Anne-Marie, who were the last King and Queen of Greece, from 1964 to 1973.

The Greek monarchy was officially abolished in 1973, but its members remain prominent society figures.

He and Princess Tatiana were engaged in 2009 before marrying in 2010. Their divorce was confirmed on April 19.

Princess Tatiana will retain her royal title.
