Why Prince Harry won't return to the UK for Megxit talks with the Queen

Prince Harry will not return to the UK for face-to-face Megxit review talks with Queen Elizabeth, according to reports.

The Duke of Sussex was set to travel to meet his grandmother ahead of the first anniversary of his departure from the British Royal Family on March 31.

However he's been forced to scrap these plans as LA bans non-essential travel amid a spike in coronavirus cases, according UK newspaper The Mirror.

The publication says the 36-year-old was set to travel to the UK and likely to request an extension to the 12-month review due to the pandemic, but this has been shelved.

Sources claim Prince Harry is planning to make arrangements in the coming weeks for the impending meeting but has "not yet attempted to contact" Her Majesty.

It comes as the UK enters its third national lockdown, with the situation so critical that the elderly and vulnerable are being asked to "shield", meaning not going outside for any reason or mixing with anyone from outside their household.

This means the Queen, 94, and husband Prince Philip, 99, who are currently at Windsor Castle, would be unlikely to meet with an overseas traveller unless numerous quarantine and testing measures took place first.

Harry and Meghan shocked not only the world but also the monarch last January when they revealed they would be stepping down from their roles as working senior members of the royal family, announcing the news before formal talks with the Queen had taken place.

An emergency meeting was then convened with Her Majesty, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry, known as "The Sandringham Summit".

The private meeting nutted out the particulars of the Sussexes' move, dubbed Megxit by the press, resulting in the formal announcement the couple would step away on March 31.

Harry and Meghan were set to start their new lives in Canada but quickly moved to Los Angeles as the pandemic led to lockdowns across the globe, staying in Tyler Perry's mansion until they bought their own home in Montecito in June.
