Prince Harry denies Meghan 'destroyed the relationship' between he and Prince William

Prince Harry has denied widespread assumptions Meghan "destroyed" his relationship with Prince William.

Speaking to CBS' Anderson Cooper on American television, Harry also went into further detail about his feelings towards his stepmother Camilla, who he said "sacrificed" him "on her personal PR altar" to win favour with the British press.

He was asked about the feud between he and William, which has dominated headlines since 2018.

Harry said he and William "love each other deeply" but admits there has been "a lot of pain, especially in the past six years".

Explaining his decision to write so openly about his relationship with William in his book Spare Harry said: "None of anything I have included is ever intended to hurt my family".

"But it does give a full picture of the situation as we were growing up and also squashes this idea that somehow my wife was the one that destroyed the relationship between these two brothers."

Harry said the royal family blamed Meghan for how he had "changed" in the months leading to their royal departure.

"He's changed. She must be a witch. He's changed," Harry said of their thoughts about Meghan.

"Yeah, I did change and I'm really glad that I did change because rather than getting drunk and falling out of clubs I've now found the love of my life and I now have the opportunity to have a family with her."

Camilla 'the villain'

Prince Harry used his strongest language yet when speaking about his stepmother, calling the Queen Consort "a villain".

"She was the third person in their marriage," Harry said, echoing his mother Diana's now-famous line about Camilla from her 1995 Panorama interview.

Harry said Camilla used her media relations team to help improve her public image at the expense of him and William.

"She was the villain," Harry said.

"She needed to rehabilitate her image. That made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press.

"And there was open willingness on both sides to trade information. With a family built on hierarchy, and with her, on the way to being Queen consort, there were going to be people or bodies left in the street because of that.

"If you are led to believe, as a member of the family, that being on the front page, having positive headlines, positive stories written about you, is going to improve your reputation or increase the chances of you being accepted as monarch by the British public, then that's what you're going to do."
