Prince Harry to return to UK next month with Meghan unlikely to join him on visit

Prince Harry is set to make a return to the UK next month but will be travelling solo, according to multiple UK reports.

The Duke of Sussex will be in London for his High Court case against publishers of UK tabloid The Sun, News Group Newspapers (NGN).

The 40-year-old and Lord Tom Watson, a former Labour deputy leader, are suing NGN over allegations of unlawful information gathering and invasion of privacy.

The hearing is expected to last eight weeks, with Prince Harry set to be cross-examined, which could last four days.

The trial is due to start in the week beginning January 20, with the duke currently scheduled to take to the witness stand towards the end of February, according to Telegraph UK.

In 2023, Prince Harry became the first senior royal to take the stand in court in more than a century, when he testified in the High Court in his legal battle against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).

Prince Harry previously said his pursuit of these cases and attempting holding the British press accountable had been "a central piece to" his widening family rift.

While the 40-year-old won't have his wife by his side in the UK, it's not an unusual move, with the Duchess of Sussex not joining her husband on his visits during his previous trial as well.

Meghan will stay with the couple's children in LA amid ongoing security concerns for their time in the UK.

Prince Harry lost royal police protection for himself and his family when they are on UK soil after stepping down as a senior working royal and unsuccessfully tried to get the decision overturned in court.

A High Court judge earlier this year ruled he was not improperly stripped of his publicly funded security detail during visits to Britain but was eventually granted leave to appeal that decision in June.

Meghan has not been on UK soil since September 2022, when Queen Elizabeth II died.

The duchess had travelled with Prince Harry for the Well Child awards but the sombre trip ended with Her Majesty's funeral at Westminster Abbey instead.

Before Prince Harry heads over to the UK next month, we're likely to see Prince Harry and Meghan make a joint appearance in Canada, with the Invictus Games winter edition taking place in Vancouver in early February.
