Queen Mary sparkles in white and gold at royal reception

Queen Mary has sparkled in white and gold at a special royal event in Denmark.

Mary, 52, was dressed in a magnolia and gold gown for The Royal Couple's New Year's Reception at Copenhagen's Christiansborg Palace, complete with gold brocade, full sleeves and high collar.

The gown was by designer Teri Jon for Rickie Freeman. Mary previously wore the outfit at an engagement party in Greenland in 2024.

This time Mary added white gloves and a light blue sash featuring their royal insignia.

The royal wore her brunette hair in a stylish chignon. Pearl drop earrings completed the look.

Husband King Frederik was dressed in full military regalia, including a black suit, gold epaulettes and a sky blue sash that matched his wife's.

The royal couple's busy day began at Christian VII's Palace in Amalienborg, where they met with Supreme Court Judges, the Royal Life Guards, and the Guard House Regiments.

Next, Mary and Frederik attended a reception was for the Diplomatic Corps at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.

2025 is shaping up to be just as busy as 2024 for the Danish royals.

King Frederik was proclaimed King alongside his wife, who became Queen.

"I will need all the support I can get from my wife, from my family, from you and from that which is greater than us," Frederik said at his proclamation on January 14, 2024

In December, Frederik delivered his first New Year's Eve speech as monarch.

Exactly a year after his mother Queen Margrethe II announced she would be abdicating, King Frederik X took to the podium to address his nation as the world welcomes 2025.

The address was much anticipated across Denmark and by royal observers around the world, as it marked the first time the address would not be given by Queen Margrethe in 52 years.

"The New Year highlights the passing of time. When the clock strikes midnight, two years touch each other, and an ending turns into a new beginning," he commenced his speech (translated from Danish)

"Tonight, we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one. Exactly as we have done year after year. But then again – something has changed.

"For my mother, Queen Margrethe, for me and for you. Although we all have had a year to get used to the idea, I am aware that there may still be some who are a bit nervous on my behalf. For can the New Year Address be given by others than Queen Margrethe?"

King Frederik acknowledged the shock felt by many about his mother's abdication last year and acknowledged the significance of his first address.

"A year ago, my mother gave her 52nd New Year Address. An address which took most people by surprise because it turned out to be her last," he said.

"Tonight, I am giving my first. There is a first time for everything and a last time for everything. These times tend to stand out more clearly than all other times.

"They are beginnings and endings in the course of life, and we attach special significance to them. The first school day – and the last. We remember them. And we celebrate them."
