Prince Harry to return to the UK on Queen Elizabeth's death anniversary

Prince Harry will return to the UK in just a few weeks, it's been confirmed.

The Duke of Sussex will attend this year's WellChild Awards in London on September 8, which happens to be the third anniversary of the late Queen Elizabeth's death.

The 40-year-old, who is patron of the children's charity and attends the awards in person most years, will be on home soil again for the first time since April.

That trip - which coincided with the death anniversary of his grandfather, Prince Philip - marked his return to a London courtroom as he appealed his case against the Home Office over his downgraded security arrangements.

After he lost his court battle the father-of-two said he "can't see a world in which [he] would be bringing [his] wife and children back to the UK" with the lack of adequate protection he desires.

So, it's no surprise to hear Prince Harry will make the September trip solo.

The last time his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, joined him in the UK, it was in September of 2022.

They had come to town for a series of engagements, including the WellChild Awards, which were then cancelled after Harry's grandmother died in Balmoral, Scotland.

The couple remained in the UK for the official 10 days of mourning, a period Meghan referenced in her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

The duchess said it was the longest time she'd been away from their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and she was "not well" as a result of the three weeks apart.

It's not known if Prince Harry will meet with any members of his family while in town amid their on-going rift.

The royal has been patron of WellChild, a charity supporting seriously ill children, for the past 17 years.

It's one of very few patronages he was allowed to hold onto after leaving his role as a senior working member of the royal family.

"I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit," he said in a statement announcing his attendance.
