'A big fat royal no': Prince William unlikely to reconcile with Prince Harry, according to royal expert

Prince William is unlikely to reconcile with Prince Harry, despite his recent plea.

Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner said it's "a big fat royal no" when asked by Fox News Digital if William is likely to welcome his younger brother back into the royal fold.

"The short answer (is) will William forgive Harry and Meghan and welcome them back? A big fat royal no," Turner said.

"King Charles will have to overrule his petulant son once again if the Sussexes wish to make up and return.

"It is not what Harry can do. It is what will make a seismic shift in William's determination to not allow his brother and family back is the real question. Partly because of the Spare book and allegedly also allowing his very popular brother and sister-in-law back into the royal household."

British media commentator Piers Morgan is one of many accusing Harry of hypocrisy, accusing him of having "trashed his family" during his many admissions via his book Spare and tell-all interviews.

This including his latest interview with the BBC following the loss of his appeal against the Home Office in the UK that removed his full-time security during trips to the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned as senior working royals in 2020, moving to the US where they launched a number of private ventures.

Harry released his explosive memoir Spare in January 2023 in which he chronicled the breakdown of his relationship with is family, in particular Prince William, who is next in line to the British throne.

"I would love a reconciliation with my family," the Duke of Sussex said during his recent BBC interview.

"There's no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has," he added, saying his father is no longer speaking to him.

King Charles, 73, is currently fighting an undisclosed form of cancer.

"There have been so many disagreements," Harry continued.

"Differences between me and some of my family. … Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book.

"Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things. But … I would love a reconciliation with my family. … It would be nice to reconcile."

Harry added that "the goal in life is always truth and reconciliation. … It would be nice to have that reconciliation part now" but noted it's up to them now.

British historian Robert Hardman told the Daily Beast in 2024 King Charles is unlikely to reach out to his son without William's approval.

"Whatever the king does needs to be done in tandem with both brothers, not just one," he said.

"He can't have unilateral discussions if William isn't in agreement."

He believes William is central to meaningful change in the relationship, particularly because of the Prince of Wales' role as heir to the throne.

"Whatever reconciliation or bridge-building happens, it needs to be a three-way process. People keep asking about the king's feelings, but William also has to be on board, which adds complexity," Hardman said.

"It's tricky, and a situation nobody wants. But whatever the way forward is, it has to work for everybody."
