Harry and Meghan planned to bring Archie and Lilibet to UK before Queen's death, but security concerns foiled their family trip

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had planned to bring their children to the UK before the Queen's death in 2022 but were forced to attend solo, a court ruling has revealed.

New details about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's travel plans, which were ultimately foiled due to security concerns, came to light in a ruling handed down by the UK's High Court judgement. 

The 51-page ruling saw Harry lose his legal bid to keep publicly-funded security detail, and buried within it was previously unknown information about Harry and Meghan's planned visit to London.

The ruling stated Harry and Meghan wanted to bring along their son Archie and daughter Lilibet with them to the UK in September 2022.

It was initially a visit with several charities, however it became a longer stay due to the death of Queen Elizabeth.

Archie and Lilibet were unable to join their parents for the trip due to the decision upheld by RAVEC (Royal and VIP Executive Committee), which coordinates security detail for the royal family, the Metropolitan Police and Home Office.

"The Home Office had been notified on 3 August 2022 that the claimant and his wife and children would be visiting the United Kingdom between 2 and 11 September 2022. The itinerary did not [redacted text]," page 24 of the document reads.

"On 10 August 2022, RAVEC met to decide what protective security, if any, should be provided.

"A letter outlining RAVEC's decision was sent to the Private Secretary to the Sovereign, since the request for protective security had come through the Royal Household."

In response to this, Harry and Meghan's team noted the proposed security arrangements for their visit were "plainly inadequate".

This likely means the Sussexes decided the security offered by RAVEC was not enough to protect their two children.

Harry and Meghan then travelled to the UK after Queen Elizabeth's death without Archie and Lilibet.

In January 2022, Harry had stated he would be unable to safely return home to the UK with his wife and children in the absence of security protection.

The couple have only visited the UK with their children once, in June 2022, during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.

This week, the Duke of Sussex lost his legal challenge against the UK Home Office, with a London judge ruling the British government had a right to strip him of his taxpayer-funded security during his visits to Britain after he stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

Prince Harry plans to appeal this ruling.
