Harry and Meghan launch new project: 'Designed to foster a sense of belonging'

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have launched a new project as part of their Archewell Foundation

It has been revealed through the release of the organisation's annual Impact Report, which includes a venture called The Welcome Project.

The project is described as a "women-led programming for recently resettled Afghan women to help build more inclusive and connected communities."

It is thought to have been inspired by the Hubb Community Kitchen, which Meghan supported during her time working for the monarchy.

There are reportedly 11 active projects operating across the US, including in Califorinia, Washington and Texas.

The initiative is "designed to foster a sense of belonging" through activities including sewing, art, hiking, swimming, photography, storytelling and cooking.

"We know that when women are well resourced and empowered to direct their own futures, they not only build a better life for themselves, but also dramatically improve the lives of those around them, their families, and their communities," the foundation said of the project.

"In other words, supporting women means supporting communities," it added.

The Archewell website states majority of participants in the project report feeling less lonely and more connected as a result of their participation in the program.

Prince Harry and Meghan have been actively involved in their foundation's charity projects this year, including an event for World Mental Health Day in New York on October 10.

This was the couple's first public appearance at one of their foundation's events.

Harry and Meghan hosted a panel as part of The Archewell Foundation Parents' Summit: Mental Wellness in a Digital Age, which aims to increase child safety online.

Prince Harry told the audience: "I can't start without thanking all the parents, the mothers and fathers for being with us physically today, but also being on this journey with us for the last year, creating this community of shared experience.

"We know it's not easy for you guys to be here so thank you very much."

Harry and Meghan launched Archewell in 2021. The organisation operates under three tiers – the Foundation, Productions and Audio.

The production arm worked in collaboration with Netflix to produce the docuseriesthe duke and duchess released in 2022, and Archewell Audio collaborated with Spotify for Meghan's podcast Archetypes.
