'The life my mum wanted for me': Prince Harry says Princess Diana would have supported his US move

Prince Harry has confirmed he has no plans to move back to the UK, months after losing his security case against the British government.

Speaking during the New York Times' DealBook Summit in New York on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT), the Duke of Sussex said he and wife Meghan would remain Stateside for the sake of their kids.

"I very much enjoy living here and bringing up my kids here," Prince Harry told host Andrew Sorkin.

"It's a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live, and I feel as though it's the life that my mum wanted for me," he said, speaking of Princess Diana.

The 40-year-old claims there are activities he's able to do with his kids - Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three - in LA that they "undoubtedly wouldn't be able to do in the UK" due to security concerns.

"That's a fantastic opportunity, I'm hugely grateful for that," he added.

The father-of-two told the summit his focus is on "being the best husband and the best dad that I can be".

Prince Harry lost royal police protection for himself and his family when they are on UK soil after stepping down as a senior working royal and unsuccessfully tried to get the decision overturned in court.

A High Court judge earlier this year ruled he was not improperly stripped of his publicly funded security detail during visits to Britain but was eventually granted leave to appeal that decision in June.

While the duke was discussing their family's future on stage in New York, Meghan made a London cameo of sorts.

The Duchess of Sussex wrote a message of festive cheer for her UK charity Smart Works.

It's one of the few patronages the actress-turned-royal held onto after she and Prince Harry walked away from their senior working royal roles in March 2020.

The charity held its first Christmas carols concert in central London, its patron offering congratulations and a poem in the order of service.

"Tonight promises to be a truly magical celebration, filled with special guests and performers, and most importantly, the shared spirit of community that defines Smart Works," Meghan wrote.

"Together we gather to honour the work and dedication of this remarkable organisation, which continues to empower women across the UK through coaching, dressing and instilling confidence on their journey to employment."

The event at St Marylebone Parish Church came just days before Meghan's sister-in-law, Kate, Princess of Wales, hosts her own Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey.

But the timing is unlikely to be something the Sussexes would be worrying too much about.

ITV's royal editor Chris Ship recently told 9honey the couple are making very clear that the UK is no longer their focus, amid an on-going family rift and fight with the tabloids.

"They have a very difficult job of rebuilding their public image in the UK and in other places," Ship said.

"But I think their focus isn't on the UK, it's on the US, their new home.

"To come back after all of that, I just think would be too difficult. Harry has more or less severed ties with his country of birth."
