Meghan Markle to make first public appearance since Lilibet's birth

Meghan Markle is set to make her first public appearance since giving birth to daughter Lilibet in June.

The Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry will appear at New York's Central Park during the Global Citizen Live event being held on Saturday.

The couple were campaign chairs for the charity's first vaccine-related event in May, Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World, which was held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Heavily pregnant at the time, Meghan skipped the on-stage appearance but featured in a video message, leaving Harry to make a solo plea for COVID-19 vaccine equity inside the stadium.

"The virus does not respect borders, and access to the vaccine cannot be determined by geography," Prince Harry said on the stage.

"It must be accepted as a basic right for all and that is our starting point."

The Duke of Sussex shared the stage with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and the Foo Fighters.

This time around the 24-hour livestream event will include Aussies Hugh Jackman and Keith Urban, as well as Lorde, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Adam Lambert, Black Eyed Peas, Green Day and Coldplay.

Multiple events are being held across the world, in cities including Lagos, Paris, New York City, London, Sydney, Seoul, Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles.

Prince Harry and Meghan have pushed for vaccine equity a few times this year — including an open letter to big pharmaceutical companies, urging them to share COVID-19 vaccines with the world's poorest countries.

They also spruiked the cause on Archie's birthday in May, asking fans to donated to Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance and raising $4.84 million in the process.

Meghan's appearance at Global Citizen Live will be the first time the Duchess has been seen in person in the three months since welcoming her second child.

However, the Duchess was seen in a special video released on her 40th birthday in August, starring alongside Melissa McCarthy to launch a mentorship initiative.

The royal also appeared in new photos on the cover of TIME magazine last week, after the Sussexes were named among the World's Most Influential People.
