Prince Harry and Meghan considering 'part-time' move to the US

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could end up spending more than a rumoured six weeks in the United States, possibly even dividing their time equally between the Los Angeles and the UK.

That's according to a royal commentator who believes Prince Harry and Meghan will take baby Archie to California next month to scope out a potential home.

"What I have learned is they're going to spend some of the six weeks in California considering a potential part-time move there," The Sun's Dan Wootton told ITV's Lorraine program.

"So, you could be looking at a situation where they might even spend great swathes of the year in the US."

The Duke and Duchess are expected to take Archie to the United States in November to spend Thanksgiving with Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, who lives in Los Angeles.

A royal source recently told The Times the couple would be available to leave the UK from "mid-November".

"The duke and duchess have a full schedule of engagements and commitments until mid-November, after which they will be taking some much-needed family time," the source said.

Prince Harry and Meghan are likely to return to the UK shortly afterwards to spend Christmas with the Queen at her Sandringham estate, as per royal tradition.

However, according to The Times, Meghan has kept her American citizenship and is keen for Archie to grow up aware of his heritage.

Wootton believes Harry and Meghan could choose California as their new US base, and spend half the year there and the other at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

"Now this hasn't been decided yet, of course they will have to work out location, they will have to work out exactly where they want to be," Wooten told Lorraine.

"But the suggestion is very much California because that's of course where Meghan's mother Doria is."

During the tell-all documentary filmed during the couple's Africa tour in October, Prince Harry expressed a desire to leave the UK entirely.

"I don't know where we could live in Africa at the moment," the Duke of Sussex told ITV's Tom Bradbury. "We've just come from Cape Town. That would be an amazing place for us to be able to base ourselves.

"With all the problems that are going on there, I just don't see how we would be able to," Harry said, adding: "I think it would be a very hard place to live when you know what's going on – but, then again, you're sort of slightly disconnected from it."
