Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirm they will tour Australia for the Invictus Games

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have confirmed they will visit Australia on an official tour later this year.

The newlywed Duke and Duchess of Sussex will travel to Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga and New Zealand in spring, timed to the Sydney Invictus Games in October.

The royal tour has been suspected for months, but confirmation came in a statement from Kensington Palace released on Sunday night, London time.

This will mark the first time Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, have visited Australia as a couple.

The Duke of Sussex travelled to Sydney by himself in June 2017 to celebrate the beginning of a 500-day countdown to Sydney's Invictus Games - the global sporting event he founded for military veterans who have suffered illness or injury through their service.

The Australian portion of Harry and Meghan's tour is believed to include a visit to Bathurst and the Hunter Valley, and a day at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse.

Harry and Meghan's visit will come just months after Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall travelled to the Gold Coast to open the Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

It's just another in a long line for "firsts" for the freshly-minted Duchess; Meghan made her first appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony over the weekend, as she joined the Royal Family for the Trooping the Colour parade.
