Prince Harry has reportedly invited King Charles to the Invictus Games in Birmingham, UK in 2027.

Royal reporter Russell Myers told Today the Duke of Sussex has come a long way since “slinging mud from across the pond” following his ‘exit’ from the royal family in 2020.

“I believe it’s a genuine wish to reconcile with his father,” Myers said.

“Whether the rest of the royal family will be there, I’m not so sure on this occasion.”

The move comes after Harry and wife Meghan joined King Charles and Queen Camilla for tea, along with their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, at the monarch’s residence Highgrove House during a recent trip to the UK.

Myers said it is important for Harry to have his family’s support at the next Invictus Games in his homeland, adding that it will “cement his case for royal security” if he is standing alongside the King.

The duke lost his battle for taxpayer-funded security during trips to the UK, citing this as the reason why Meghan and their children won’t join him at public appearances there.

Harry was in the UK earlier this month for a series of events, including the traditional ‘One Year to Go’ Invictus Games event.

“Certainly, the King would add a bit of stardust to [the Birmingham event],” Myers said, adding that while Charles may attend, whether he stands on stage alongside his son at the event “remains to be seen”.

Myers doesn’t expect Prince William to join them.

“William is looking out for his future,” he said.

“He’s got absolutely no time. Look at what William and Catherine have been through in the past few years.”

Prince William was left to deal with his father’s cancer diagnosis in 2024, followed by his with Catherine’s cancer battle. The King’s cancer treatment continues while the Princess of Wales announced she is in remission.

Myers said all of Prince Harry’s public disclosures regarding conflict with his family were “very, very hurtful for William”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey following their ‘royal exit’, followed by a Netflix series, and then further revelations in Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare.

“I think there needs to be a lot more water under the bridge before William comes to the table and breaks bread with Harry.”

Harry’s extended family, including cousins Zara and Mike Tindall, and Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, could also join him at the Birmingham event.

The duke launched the Invictus Games for wounded, injured, and sick military service members and veterans in London in 2014, having served 10 years with the British Army.

This inaugural event was attended by Charles, Camilla, Prince William, Princess Eugenie and then-Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, who is now king.

There has since been seven events, including London in 2014, Orlando in the US in 2016, Toronto in Canada in 2017, Sydney in 2018, The Hague in the Netherlands in 2022, Düsseldorf in Germany in 2023, and Vancouver Whistler 2025.

It was at the Toronto Games that Harry and now-wife Meghan Markle made their first official public appearance together.

There are hopes Meghan will join Prince Harry at the next Invictus Games, although security for the couple in the UK remains one of their key concerns.

The duchess cancelled her planned public appearances during the family’s trip to the UK earlier this month when their request for taxpayer-funded police protection was rejected.
