How Prince Harry will celebrate his 36th birthday today

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, turns 36 today on 15 September but he won't be celebrated with his extended family.

Instead the royal will remain in the US with wife Meghan Markle and son Archie, 16-months where they recently purchased a home in Montecito in Santa Barbara in the US.

Travel restrictions mean travelling from the US to the UK is difficult. Those entering the UK from the US need to enter mandatory quarantine for 14 days, with the same rule applying upon return to the US.

The UK has implemented further restriction due to the continuing pandemic banning gatherings of more than six people which would make it difficult for the British royals to celebrate Harry's birthday together, even if he had travelled to home for the occasion.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex purchased their new home for $14 million and have been giving fans glimpses of it during video calls with various patronages.

This will be Harry's second birthday as a father but this time Archie is old enough to share a piece of cake with his dad.

For the royal's birthday in 2019 Meghan shared a message on the couple's Sussex Royal Instagram page along with a photo of the pair holding Archie at his christening.

It read: "Wishing a very happy birthday to His Royal Highness Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex! A birthday message from The Duchess of Sussex: 'Your service to the causes you care so deeply for inspires me every day. You are the best husband and most amazing dad to our son. We love you. Happiest birthday!'"

Meghan celebrated her 39th birthday on August 4, with the British royals marking the occasion with heartfelt messages on social media.

The next birthday the royals will mark is Prince Charles' who turns 72 on 14 November.
