Prince George has grown up before our very eyes, and now he's set to reach a major schooling milestone in 2026.

In September, George will transition into high school – marking a momentous shift for the young royal and his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

According to Royal expert Katie Nicholl, the move will come with one key condition.

Speaking to The Mirror, Nicholl says through it all, William and Kate's singular focus will be ensuring their firstborn's stint in secondary school is as "ordinary" as possible.

Fellow expert Hugo Vickers agrees the pair will want to give their eldest a relatively carefree life during this next period, saying that while they are certainly preparing him to eventually take the throne, they are not rushing the process.

"There are two generations before [he gets to the throne], he has plenty of time," Vickers said.

"But of course, it's going to feel very different for George and the family when he goes, because they've always been so close," Nicholl added.

According to her, it will be quite the adjustment for the Princess in particular, who is reportedly accustomed to a more hands-on approach to her son's schooling.

She has proved herself to be a regular fixture at her children's prestigious preparatory school, Lambrook, attending sporting matches and charity events alike.

Touchingly, she's revealed she particularly cherished her involvement during her cancer treatment, saying, "On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life."

Kensington Palace has not yet revealed which school Prince George will attend, however his discerning parents have been spotted touring a number of contenders in recent months.

Prince William and Catherine are expected to announce their son's school of choice as close to his start date as possible, to lessen the attention on the institution and its student body.

The two primary frontrunners are all-boys Eton College, in Windsor, and Marlborough College, in Berkshire.

Both have connections with the royal family. Eton is where Prince William and Prince Harry attended during their teenage years.

Marlborough, on the other hand, is Princess Katherine's alma mater; a co-educational boarding school where she obtained her A-Levels in English, art and mathematics.
