Senior royals to make first joint public appearance since bombshell book

Senior members of the British royal family will make their first joint appearance since explosive new book Endgame

King Charles and Queen Camilla will host the Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening (Wednesday morning AEDT) with Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales also in attendance.

It's believed the two couples will put on a united front at the annual event, which sees more than 500 members of the Diplomatic Corps invited to the pre-Christmas event in the state rooms.

It will be the first time they've be seen all together since two members of the family were reportedly named in the Dutch translation of explosive new book Endgame as the alleged royals at the centre of claims first made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in their 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed there had been "conversations and concerns" about the colour of Prince Archie's skin before his birth but refused to name the person involved.

Prince Harry then during a January interview for his memoir, Spare, denied labelling any family members racist and said they were only highlighting unconscious bias in those comments.

The new royal book revisited the claims and revealed it was not one senior royal but two who were supposedly involved in the alleged incident.

This was revealed after an extra passage appeared in the original Dutch translation, which was swiftly pulled from bookshelves, and sparked an investigation by publishers.

As the fallout from the error raged, the senior royals kept their schedule with King Charles in Dubai for the COP28 environmental summit, while Prince William and Kate ignored reporters as they arrived at the Royal Variety Performance on Thursday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kate made a solo appearance to open Evelina London's new children's day surgery unit at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.

The Princess of Wales, who has been royal patron of the children's charity since 2018, effortlessly spoke to kids as she met with families who had already had surgery there.

Kate was given a tour of the facility and also spoke with staff who are hoping the new unit can "transform care for children and young people who need surgery by providing everything they need in one place, delivering a family-focused experience".

Prince William made a private visit to West London, where he was reunited with Big Issue seller Dave Martin and the pair sold magazines together outside supermarket Tesco, in Hammersmith.

It's not the first time the Prince of Wales has shown his support for the publication, created to help homeless and vulnerable people in the UK.

The royal previously went somewhat undercover to get the full experience of those selling the magazines.

While King Charles was also out and about during the day, attending an advent service and Christmas reception at The Coptic Orthodox Church Centre UK in Stevenage, England – approximately a two hour drive north of Buckingham Palace.

His Majesty met with young volunteers, members of the Coptic Orthodox Church Congregation, unveiled a plaque and planted a tree during the visit.

Members of the royal family will come together again on Friday as Kate hosts her annual Christmas carols concert at Westminster Abbey.

The show will air on British television on Christmas Eve and feature performances from Jacob Collier, Freya Ridings and James Bay, as well as a special duet from Beverley Knight and Adam Lambert.
