Prince Charles and Camilla divide and conquer on day two of royal tour in Northern Ireland

Prince Charles and Camilla have enjoyed the second day of their two-day royal tour of Northern Ireland to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

In divide and conquer mode, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall made a number of solo appearances focusing on Belfast tourist attractions and their respective charities.

The couple did began day two together, with a joint engagement at Hillsborough Castle, where they met with staff and signed the Visitors' Book.

While there, the Prince of Wales planted a Magnolia tree in the gardens as part of the Queen's Green Canopy program — a UK-wide tree-planting initiative to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee.

The royal couple then headed to C.S. Lewis Square, named in honour of the Belfast-born author whose original home is nearby.

The author is most famous for his The Chronicles of Narnia fantasy novel series.

The Prince and Duchess arrived at the Aslan statue and visited stalls along the Narnia-themed sculpture walk, before posing for a photo alongside a statue of the famous wardrobe in the Narnia books.

Following this engagement, the Duchess broke off and visited the adjacent Holywood Arches Library.

Camilla, who has long been campaigning for increased literacy and launched the Duchess of Cornwall Reading Room, met with old and young library regulars.

The Duchess then headed to BBC Northern Ireland, where she became the first member of the royal family to help the broadcaster mark its centenary year.

Camilla ended the day playing tourist, visiting Titanic Belfast to mark the the popular attraction's 10th anniversary.

Prince Charles headed from C.S. Lewis Square to Belfast's Grand Opera House, which he re-opened.

The royal met with meet architects, conservators and interior designers involved in the restoration project before being treated to a short performance, followed by a meet and greet with the tech team and performers on stage afterwards.

Prince Charles, who is Patron of charity Marie Curie, visited its Belfast hospice to mark the UK's "Day of Reflection", on the second anniversary of the pandemic lockdowns.

He met with residents, their families, and Marie Curie staff before contributing to the "wall of reflection".

The royal then met with refugees from Syria and Ukraine at an afternoon reception at Titanic Belfast, also meeting with local organisations involved in helping and supporting refugees, including Barnados and British Red Cross.

At the event, Prince Charles was reunited with The Prince's Trust Young Achiever award winner from last year's Pride of Britain ceremony, Hassan Alkhawam, who is a Syrian refugee now supporting migrant communities to settle in Belfast.

The royal didn't have to go far for his final engagement of the day, with a reception next door to mark a centenary of the Royal Ulster Constabulary George Cross Foundation.

As patron of the organisation, Prince Charles met with volunteers and widows of the foundation.

Prince Charles and Camilla's visit to Northern Ireland is part of the couple's plans to visit all countries in the United Kingdom for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year.
