Prince Albert of Monaco on the challenges of home schooling royal twins

Prince Albert of Monaco has spoken about home schooling his twin children during coronavirus lockdowns.

And it seems even the head of state is not immune to the challenges faced by parents and carers around the world during school closures.

"They're not doing calculus or anything like that yet, which is what I'll have a little problem with," Prince Albert told People Royals.

The monarch and his wife Princess Charlene have two children together, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella. In December they celebrated their sixth birthday.

Both are curious to know more about science and geography, he said.

"We went through a whole phase of them wanting to know all about the oceans and planets and everything about the solar system."

The siblings are close but they have distinct personality differences, he said.

Prince Albert described Jacques – who is heir to the throne – as "shy and a little quieter" than his sister.

But, "he's a great observer and loves to size up the situation. Then he'll go for it".

Gabriella, who is the older of the two, was "more outgoing" and "loves to dance and to sing".

"She has no qualms about being in front of people," the royal said.

Prince Albert also told the publication how he and Charlene are preparing their children for life in the spotlight when they eventually increase their royal duties.

Already the children make frequent appearances with their parents including during celebrations for Monaco's National Day and at the annual Children's Christmas Party at the palace – a tradition started by Albert's mother, Princess Grace.

"It's basically just explaining to them in the simplest terms what (royal duty) is all about," he said.

"We don't want to put them into the spotlight too much. It's a case-by-case opportunity for now, so it remains special for them."
